Post Reunion - October 2001

Question: What came in with a bang, went out with a puff, and it still keeps on giving?
Answer: The Dwight Harding Family Reunion 2001

Many thanks to ALL those who helped to make the reunion a huge success. This includes, not only those who helped with the planning and running of the reunion, but also those who attended. We may never know the final number of those who came. It was over 500 and probably between 600-700. We are still missing two sign-in packets for the Isaac E.D. & Elizabeth Harding Zundel family and one packet for the Alma and Margaret Jones Harding family. We have been able to partially recreate these from the names of those who placed orders or who made out checks while at the reunion, but we know many others paid cash and have not been named. If you happen to run across any sign-in sheets with your things please send them to Jaelynne.

The Zundel Families, including both Charles & Elizabeth Harding, are planning a reunion August 2002 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of John Jacob Zundel bringing his family to Utah in 1852. For more information on this reunion contact Pat Price at patmom@hotmail.com

The Amos & Phebe Harding Warner Family is planning to put a headstone on the family plot in Willard to preserve the names of their descendents who are buried there, but whose headstones have crumbled away and are lost. For more information contact Dan Jones at danjones@sisna.com.

George & Mary Jones and Alma & Margaret Jones Harding families are planning on small reunions for the next two years with a large Jones family reunion the summer of 2004 to include all the descendents of Benjamin and Esther Jones. The George Harding family can contact Ralph Harding at ralphrharding@hotmail.com. The Alma Harding family can contact Sherrie Wahlen at rdalewhalen@msn.com or me at jaelynne@jkhathaway.org All this planning for the future is great!!!

We literally had family attend the reunion from all over the country. We had representatives from Alaska, Arizona, California, Canada, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. In additon, on the maps which were mounted, these families indicated they had lived in 42 states of the U.S. and 37 countries. LDS missions have been served by these families in 48 different countries. I am certain that Dwight and Phebe Holbrook Harding had no idea that their little family would have such a national and world-wide influence in just 150 years. I think they are smiling from ear to ear (in spite of their serious looks in their picture). If you were at the reunion and your state is not listed above, there is a good possibility your name is one of the many we are missing. Please contact me.

The tours of the family homes were a huge success. I hope everyone has written to the owners of these homes and thanked them for their generosity in sharing their personal living quarters with us. The video and/or CD of these homes and headstones will be mailed out the last part of October. The cost is $10.00 each. Don’t forget to specify if you want the video or the CD. The video has all the pictures with a short title of explanation for that picture. It is set to music and runs almost 30 minutes. The CD contains the same pictures with a typed transcript (usually 4-5 sentences) of what is portrayed in that picture.

A huge thanks to Rob Amini who ran our auction and to all of you who donated items for the auction and to those of you who purchased these items. It was a huge success and even with printing the family books, and mailing them, I think we will come out okay. This is much more than I had hoped to be able to do.

We are still gathering family information for the Updated Descendancy Book we plan to publish as a companion to the books printed by Dr. Glen Harding. We do not know what it will cost yet. (That depends on the size.) We do need everyone’s family information ASAP. If you are interested in obtaining this book, please let me know so I can send you the information about it when we know more. It is in this book that we plan to print the corrections to the other Family Books Dr. Harding published. So please send me the corrections of which you are aware in those books.

There has been some confusion as to the difference in the Harding family books.

For a discussion of these books go to the Book Discussion. No matter which book(s) you decide to buy, I need the updated descendancy material as soon as possible.

I have recently found family organizations that you may be interested in joining for both the Harding and the Holbrook families. I am still investigating them both. If you are interested the Harden-in-ing Family Association (HFA) membership can be reached at oranhj@meckcom.net and the Holbrook Family Organization can be reached at benfholbrook@msn.com. The Holbrook organization just launched their website. It is www.holbrook-family.org and may be of interest to you. They are adding new things almost daily.

I still have a few reunion water bottles left. I will continue to take orders for copies of the stories, pictures, journals, video/CD, Family Books, etc. and mail them out as soon as I can after receiving the orders. If you previously ordered items other than the video/CD or the reprints of the Family Books you should have received them by now. I think I have mailed out all orders for which I have received money. If not, please let me know. For a list of all items you can purchase go to the Order Form.

Thanks again for a wonderful reunion. It was GREAT!!!!!
Your cousin,
Jaelynne Harding Hathaway
